Engineering Excellence Awards

The American Council of Engineering Companies of Iowa (ACEC/Iowa) presented its 2011 Engineering Excellence Awards to engineering firms and their clients at its 55th annual conference and awards banquet at the Sheraton West Des Moines Hotel in West Des Moines, Iowa the evening of May 5, 2011, and PRESS RELEASES for these projects were posted. Congratulations are due to all entrants for the outstanding projects they submitted.


Call to Excellence

The overall goal of the Engineering Excellence Awards program is to recognize outstanding engineering achievements in Iowa, and to provide an opportunity for recognition for your firm, your employees and your clients.

Entries compete in the categories of Transportation, Water & Wastewater, Buildings & Systems, Special Projects and Energy Production. Projects may have been executed anywhere in the world. The entering firm must have an office in Iowa, but does not have to be a member of ACEC/Iowa.

2012 ACEC/Iowa Competition is Now Complete

Entries for the 2012 ACEC/Iowa Engineering Excellence Awards competition were received by November 7, 2011 and the judging is complete. Entrants were notified of the results in time to allow them to enter the national Engineerining Excellence Awards competition if desired. Any firms wishing to enter their projects nationally need to contact ACEC/Iowa so we can verify your entry on your behalf. Visit http://www.acec.org/getinvolved/eea.cfm for more information. The national entry deadline is January 6, 2012.

The 2012 ACEC/Iowa awards will be presented at the Awards Banquet on the evening of May 3, 2012 at the Sheraton West Des Moines Hotel. Press releases for 2012 entries will be posted here on May 4, 2012.


Entry materials for the 2013 ACEC/Iowa Engineering Excellence Awards competition will be posted here in August, 2012.

Criteria for Judging

Entries are judged on the criteria below:

  • Original or Innovative Application of New or Existing Techniques 20%
  • Future Value to the Engineering Profession & Perception by the Public 20%
  • Social, Economic, and Sustainable Design Considerations 20%
  • Complexity 20%
  • Exceeding Client/Owner Needs 20%
