Engelkemier Named IES Young Engineer of the Year for 2010
Monte Engelkemier, P.E. was honored by the Iowa Engineering Society in being named the association’s Young Engineer of the Year for 2010. Engelkemier is the senior mechanical engineer in the Mechanical Engineering Department of the Power Generation Group at Stanley Consultants in Muscatine, Iowa. The award is presented by IES in recognition of outstanding professional or technical achievement before the age of 35. IES President Matt Garber presented Engelkemier the award at the Society’s annual conference in May and introduced the award recipient as “epitomizing the type of leader IES and the engineering community will call on to lead our organization and our profession in the future.” Engelkemier received his BS degree in 2000 and his MS Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Kansas State University in 2005. He started his career with Black and Veatch in Kansas City and then moved to Allied Glass Experts where he was involved in the design of a ball drop test to demonstrate the retention capabilities of laminated glass versus tempered glass in automotive applications. The results of the demonstration were subsequently used as evidence in a court case. Since joining Stanley in 2005 he has been involved in a number of challenging projects including a new 300 MW circular fluidized bed boiler. In addition to the design, Monte was also responsible for training new engineers in pipe stress techniques and coordinating all pipe loads with structural engineers. Monte is a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and has been involved in the organization’s technical committees. Monte has been involved in the Muscatine Chapter of IES and has served as the Chapter’s president as well as through various committee activities. Today Monte also serves on the IES Board of Directors. In addition to his involvement in engineering organizations, Monte is a graduate of Leadership Muscatine. He was active in the Overland Park Arboretum and the Rotary. Last year he was elected to a four-year term of the Muscatine County Agriculture Extension Council. Monte, congratulations on being the IES 2010 Young Engineer of the Year. |
