| I do not believe that teaching engineering and practicing engineering are the same experience. Therefore I do not feel that Professors of Engineering should be "grandfathered" in as a licensed professional engineer. I also don't believe that teaching engineering should qualify as experience towards a professional engineering license. Engineering, in my opinion, is the practice of taking theoretical and mathematical models of systems or elements and applying them to real world phenomenon within the frame work of specified budgets, deadlines, marketing issues, manufacturability questions and asthetic influences. Effectively interacting with these daily issues are important and essential experiences for developing a professional engineer. I believe teachers of engineering should be licensed as teachers or professors, and that this profession has equal (perhaps even greater) responsibilites as engineering. But I believe that teaching is not engineering and it should not be treated as if it is the same experience.
