There's no question that Iowa's laws are difficult for those people that want to get licensed but are not working under the direct supervision of a PE. However, they are not insurmountable. The board has established a mentoring "system" wherby soemone who does not work directly with a PE
can mentor with a PE outside of his or her job place. I would suggest you contact the Board directly to better understand how you can set up such a mentoriing program. If you were to utilize such a mentoring system I am sure the PE references would be easy to find at that time.

I also note that you have had three years experience. The state law does not allow for anything less than four years (execpt for Ph.Ds.

: Hi, all. Got a question, and the websites are a jumble of info. It looks like, if I'm reading it right, that before I can take the test, I need to have 5 refernces (3 of which are PE's) and 4 years experience working for a PE. Now, since college, I got a Masters degree and worked for 3 years, but by boss isn't a PE. I only know two PE's professionally. I'd like to work to get my license, but from what I've read, I'm screwed since my co-workers and boss isn't licensed. Is this right? Am I missing something? I'd appreciate some guidance here. Thanks.
