Information last updated on September 3, 2009
Starting with the 1999-2000 school year, the Iowa
Engineering Society no longer offers State level
scholarships, nor does IES
participate in any of the
scholarship programs offered through the National
Society
of Professional
Engineers. However, some of the
IES regional organizations
do
offer a Chapter scholarship.
The
Iowa Engineering
Society is a statewide organization
comprised of several Chapters which
divide the state
geographically.
IES Chapters may offer a
scholarship
to high school
seniors
wishing to pursue an
engineering
degree and
career, but the
recipient
must attend high school in one of the Iowa
counties
within
that Chapter's
boundaries. Similar criteria
may be used in the
various
Chapters'
scholarship competitions,
but they
are not identical.
Using the
list below, you will need
to
identify and
contact your high
school county's Chapter
Coordinator for details
about their scholarship
program,
and
whether or not
you qualify to apply.
The IES State Office does not
have the
information you will
need.
Most
Chapter
scholarships are one-time
awards in the $500
range, with recipients
selected based on
academic
accomplishments.
(Again,
you will
need to confirm your
Chapter's criteria and the amount of
their award.)
Most of the
scholarship winners are announced in the Spring,
but the
actual monies are not
distributed until the
recipient has
completed
their first semester in an
approved pre-engineering program from a recognized
institution. Graduating high
school seniors
winning Chapter scholarships who decide to
attend Iowa State University
would
also
qualify for a matching
scholarship from
the
ISU
College of
Engineering. (The University of Iowa no
longer matches IES Chapter Scholarships.)
Inquiries and applications
are typically
only accepted by
Chapter Coordinators
between
September 1 and December 1 each year, although
Chapters are free to choose different
deadlines. Inquiries and
applications
WILL
NOT be accepted outside of
the time frame
declared by the Chapter. Also, DO NOT
request scholarship information from any Chapter other than
the one including the county where you go to high school.
The county in which
you attend high
school determines
eligibility,
rather than your county of
residence.
Requests from individuals
attending
high school outside a
Chapter's
geographical
boundaries,
and/or outside of their time
frame, will not
receive a
response.
Please
note
that
not every Chapter of the
Iowa Engineering
Society may
offer a
scholarship in a
given year.
If you
attend high school in a
county whose
Chapter does not currently offer a
scholarship, the list
will
indicate "No" or "TBA" if
information on the upcoming year's scholarship is "To
Be
Announced" but not yet available
for that Chapter.
Locate on the list below your Chapter's name opposite the county where you attend high school. Then, if your Chapter offers a scholarship, scroll down this page to see how to contact your Chapter Coordinator for details and application information.
