Starting with the 1999-2000 school year, the Iowa Engineering Society no longer offers State level scholarships. However, some of the IES regional organizations do offer a Chapter scholarship.
The Iowa Engineering Society is a statewide organization comprised of several Chapters which divide the state geographically. See the Chapter Map and the list of the counties in each Chapter below, along with information on which chapters offer scholarships.
IES Chapters may offer a scholarship to high school seniors wishing to pursue an engineering degree and career, but the recipient must attend high school in one of the Iowa counties within that Chapter's boundaries. Similar criteria may be used in the various Chapters' scholarship competitions, but they are not identical. Using the list below, you will need to identify and contact your high school county's Chapter Coordinator for details about their scholarship program, and whether or not you qualify to apply. The IES State Office does not have the information on Chapter Scholarships.
Most Chapter scholarships are one-time awards in the $250 - $500 range, with recipients selected based on academic accomplishments. Many of the scholarship winners are announced in the Spring, but the actual monies are not distributed until the recipient has completed their first semester in an approved pre-engineering program from a recognized institution. Graduating high school seniors winning Chapter scholarships who decide to attend Iowa State University would also qualify for a matching scholarship from the ISU College of Engineering.
Inquiries and applications are typically only accepted by Chapter Coordinators between September 1 and December 1 each year, although Chapters are free to choose different deadlines. Inquiries and applications may not be accepted outside of the time frame declared by the Chapter. Also, DO NOT request scholarship information from any Chapter other than the one including the county where you go to high school. The county in which you attend high school determines eligibility, rather than your county of residence. Requests from individuals attending high school outside a Chapter's geographical boundaries, and/or outside of their time frame, will not receive a response.
Please note that not every Chapter of the Iowa Engineering Society will offer a scholarship in a given year. If you attend high school in a county whose Chapter does not currently offer a scholarship, the list will indicate "No" in the "Scholarship Available?" column.

IES has a NEW website!
We are thrilled to announce that the IES website has been updated to a more dynamic system that will help with the work of keeping our membership connected. With social networking support, simple tools for staying in touch, space for sharing documents and photos and resources to support Chapters and committees, we can use it to communicate among members and highlight great work being done in our industry. In addition, www.iaengr.org is going to be the workhorse that will collect member dues and support event registrations and payments.
We hope you enjoy the new site!
